It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has achieved everything.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her debut and seven global championships have resulted from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this knock was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that Healy was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was out her side needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can do it."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this victory coming after win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have pushed back plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
